Rural Community Broadband Fund Information Event
Community Action Hampshire is organising a Rural Community Broadband Fund Information Event in Winchester on the afternoon of Friday 17 February from 2.00 pm – 4.30 pm. Registration and refreshments from 1.30 pm.
Purpose of the event: The event is to appraise communities in rural and hard to reach areas of Hampshire of up to £20 million government funding that is available and might be suitable for them to help bring faster broadband to their localities.
Background to the funding:
The Rural Community Broadband Fund, jointly funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK), is aimed at the 10 per cent hardest to reach areas which are unlikely to be upgraded through market forces alone. These areas may only receive standard 2Mbps broadband. The fund will have up to £20 million for small community projects to implement enhanced or superfast broadband (24mbps and above) solutions beyond the standard connection.
Speakers and information:
Representatives from DEFRA and BDUK will be in attendance to answer your questions and clarify funding eligibility, what the fund covers, information needed and how to apply. Members of Hampshire County Council’s Broadband Project Team will also be on hand to explain about the £5 million government funding that they are to receive and the areas this funding is aimed to help.

Community Action Hampshire have been asked by DEFRA and BDUK to help inform communities about this additional broadband funding pot and how to access it. The event has been facilitated by Hampshire County Council who recently learned that their broadband plan and funding for Hampshire had been approved by BDUK.
