WP Group, a fuel and lubricant specialist with expertise in fuel for heating, aviation, marine and motorsport, is the winner of this years’ prestigious New Forest Business of the Year award.
Darren Borras, from the Hardley-based company, received the top prize from the Hon. Ralph Montagu of Beaulieu, President of the New Forest Business Partnership, at the New Forest Brilliance in Business Awards, which took place at Carey’s Manor Hotel on Wednesday 26 November 2014.
The business also received the New Forest National Park Authority Sustainable Business Award.
WP Group has made sustainability a key commitment. Last year the board undertook a review of the company’s sustainability credentials and pledged to reduce the levels of consumption within the business. In the past 12 months a variety of energy saving initiatives have been implemented including environmental impact training for staff, electronic invoicing and online forms to reduce paper usage, and computer and light shutdowns outside of work hours. Employees are encouraged to suggest ways in which the company’s environmental impact could be reduced and directly engage with the initiatives which are promoted.
In 2013 WP Group launched ‘Sustainability in Action’, a pledge to behave ethically, value their people, work with other local companies and set an example in protection of the environment.
Harriet Phillips said: “At WP Group (WP), sustainability isn’t just an initiative but a company-wide commitment to ensuring future generations are not compromised by the actions we take today. Through the launch of WP’s Sustainable Solutions Programme, we have delivered significant efficiency and emission savings both internally and to our customers, whether a large international corporation or small local business. This award is testament to the dedication shown by the WP team to embed a sustainable culture at the heart of our business and we are delighted to accept this award for 2014.”
New Forest Business Partnership Chairman, Rob Dewing, said: “The high standard of entries to the awards again highlights the quality of business and innovation taking place within the New Forest, making it such an exciting place to do business.”
The New Forest Business Partnership, which organised the awards, was established to improve relations between commercial organisations and local government, to promote better business-to-business relationships, to build a stronger economy and to bring prosperity to the community.
The Partnership is a forum for local business people to express their views, share their knowledge and experience, network with potential clients and suppliers, and help make changes that will benefit their business.
