New Forest Business Book Club
25 January, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
£10.00Join us – with a cup of tea or coffee – for the first meeting of the New Forest Business Book Club! This informal virtual networking meeting was founded with the purpose of sharing knowledge with each other. Knowledge is the start of change – an inevitable process in business and in life.
Business complexity is ever-increasing, working environments are constantly evolving and new technologies provide exciting new opportunities. Do you seek to improve your interpersonal skills? Or learn about Branding and Marketing? How about making sense of emerging trends like Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and the Internet of Things? Or maybe you’d like to learn how to go about creating your own business? If you answered yes to any of those questions, and you like networking with other like-minded people, then WELCOME TO OUR BUSINESS BOOK CLUB!
We read and discuss some of the most thought-provoking business books. Sometimes, we will be in conversation with the author. Other times, we will share our own choice of business book, which is a great opportunity to inspire and motivate others.
No pre-reading required – most of us will be inspired by the discussion and will read the chosen book afterwards. If you’re into business books – reading them, writing them, taking them to the beach with you – this is the monthly meeting for you!
Today, we welcome Manley Hopkinson, author of ‘Compassionate Leadership’.
Empathy has been one of the hottest leadership topics of 2020, but this book was ahead of the curve in many ways, championing the business case for compassionate leadership when creating committed, high-performing teams.
Written by New Forest based Manley Hopkinson, the book is interwoven with nail-biting and highly inspirational tales from his adventures around the globe. It moves from fighting off polar bears on a North Pole expedition to skippering a crew through a hurricane during a round the world race, so it allows you to lose yourself in the drama before applying the lessons to the diverse day-to-day challenges that all business owners will identify with. Each page offers practical, straight-talking advice, exercises and tips to transform the way you lead your team and the culture of your organisation.
Support and advice is on hand with the opportunity to share experience and expertise with fellow New Forest businesses. We look forward to welcoming you online!
Please note that this is a virtual Zoom meeting.
You do need to book by 1500 on Monday. You will then receive an email just after bookings close with the Zoom meeting ID and password to enable you to join the meeting online.
Please support local booksellers if you are buying the book! Click here for details from an independent bookseller in Lymington. Thank you.
