This mornings (Thursday 30th March) business breakfast was held at Hotel Terravina.
Audience participation was the name of the game at a small but lively discussion of exploiting export opportunities, led by Nick Charles of the Department for International Trade. Nick emphasised that the government is committed to helping business expand their international trade with on the ground advisers available to research opportunities on over 100 countries worldwide, as well as regionally based UK advisers such as himself.
One of Nick’s key messages was to start with countries where the market was already receptive to UK trade, and then grow from there – he named the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Scandinavia as examples, rather than larger countries with a less receptive attitude. Members discussed the level of uncertainty which exists in international trade, but we felt that uncertainty also offered opportunity for those who were bold enough to take it.
