On 8 March 2022, NFBP hosted a lunch in collaboration with Southampton Business School at Careys Manor to celebrate women in business on International Women's Day.

We were overwhelmed with the response we received with 100 people attending from all areas of local New Forest businesses.

Those who attended heard from three inspirational female speakers over lunch. Flora Richardson of The Forest Foodie and recent winner of NFBP’s Business of the Year award spoke of how she had tackled gender bias in her former career recruiting for the travel industry. Alison Wilson, Partner at Balmer Lawn Hotel shared how she overcame prejudice throughout her career in the male dominated logistics industry and Professor Laura Constanzo spoke of her personal journey from a small town in Italy to become Head of Southampton Business School, championing women in business and what we can do to help #breakthebias.

Following the lunch, a charity raffle was held which raised a fantastic £1000 for local charity, força - strength against cancer, which was founded by a group of women from Lymington after one of their friends, Carla Whitbread was diagnosed with terminal metastatic breast cancer. Carla spoke at the event, giving a moving account of living with cancer and how the charity has developed from friends supporting her to becoming a registered charity which supports many people impacted by cancer in Hampshire and Dorset.

The raffle raised £1000 for the charity thanks to the generous prizes donated by local businesses: The Pig, Balmer Lawn Hotel, The New Forest Hamper Company, AllDeckedOut, Thymeless Beauty, Orchids Retreat, The New Forest Wildlife Park, Wightlink, New Forest Hotels, Uniquessence, New Forest Activities, Forest Foot and Health Clinic, Salcombe Gin, Chocolate by Miss Witt, Organise Events, Robin’s Nest Vintage Tearooms, Stacey Miller Consulting, Crown Foods, Becky takes Photos, Astrid Davies Consulting and The Gym Tin.
