Minstead Training Trust, the New Forest charity supporting people with learning disabilities has recently launched its Autumn fundraising campaign “Grow Our Spring Spectacular”. Yes, you have read that correctly, it is an Autumn campaign but with Spring very much in mind. As a New Forest Business Partnership member, we are hoping that your business may be able to help us achieve our campaign target of £6000, by simply sharing this with your own business networks; in doing so you will be directly supporting a local charity that relies heavily on donations to be able to do what we do.
First a bit about us as a charity. Minstead Training Trust supports people with learning disabilities to live more independent lives, to be valued and to live as full citizens in society. We provide residential support, support in people’s homes and also day opportunities, at Minstead Lodge and Furzey Gardens providing employment opportunities and meaningful activities such as horticulture training, cooking, life skills and much more. In short, one of our parents recently said about us “Minstead Training Trust is a wonderful organisation, it’s a place where my son can be the best that he can be”.
This Autumn, students of Minstead Training Trust, supported by staff and volunteers, will be planting many varieties of heritage bulbs in the gardens at Furzey. Many of these varieties of daffodils and narcissi were once prevalent in the gardens in the 1920s and 30s, but have since died out. We want to reintroduce these old varieties back to the gardens to recreate some of those images of the 20s and 30s and bring earlier Spring colour to Furzey. Furzey Gardens is itself a charitable trust, and the more visitors we have to the gardens, the more we can support our students from Minstead Training Trust (its sister charity) to learn new skills and become more confident and more independent.
