This morning’s NFBP Business Breakfast features three guest speakers for the price of one with delegates learning about the plans for Totton College, the Film New Forest Project and the 2016/17 Brilliance in Business Awards.
To start the meeting, attendees received a detailed presentation from new Totton College Principal Derek Headridge. Derek outlines the future plans for the college and what was being done to develop and improve relationships with local employers. This sparked a discussion around the priorities for local education and how these priorities can best meet the needs of local businesses who are seeking to recruit.
Cllr Michael Harris then gave an overview of the Film New Forest Project. This is a District Council backed scheme to encourage film and television show makers to come to the New Forest to work. The motivation behind this is the local economic benefit this can bring; a major film production can spend up to £40,000 a day, money which is circulated within the local economy. The initial plans were set out and attendees were invited to become involved in helping this develop.
Finally Matt Callaghan launched the 2016/17 Brilliance in Business Award. Now in their 11th year the awards celebrate all that’s wonderful about doing business in the forest. Matt outlines the 8 award categories and how businesses can enter. Full details including online entry can be found at www.nfbp.org.uk/awards
